FAMILY
THAT RESTORES TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER
Mustangs are iconic to car restoration culture. It has been a
tradition in one family to restore a Mustang and keep the family unit
strong.
A prime example is the iconic '65 Mustang Convertible owned by Brad
Puskas. This blue beauty has been in his family for over 20 years
purchased by his dad for only $2,000. His dad used it as a
daily driver and handed it down to his teenage kids for school
transportation.
After a minor fender bender in the late 80's Brad and his dad agreed that
a restoration was in order and the family project began. The
classic Guardsman blue is not commonly seen today and being a family
favorite they decided to keep it. Brad was the labor force during
all the disassembly and had an opportunity to closely inspect most of
the parts and was able to repair and clean most of them without the need
to purchase any aftermarket parts.
Many of these Mustangs have been turned into resto mods but Brad kept
this one true to its grassroots. During the restoration process the
engine was removed and thoughts of a 289 V8 came about, but
quickly discarded. The trusty 200 c.i was freshened up and back into the
car it went.
Attached to the back of this straight six is a C4 automatic transmission
that makes for good gas mileage.
The engine bay is simple and clean. Nothing extra just the normal parts.
The Interior welcomes the California sunshine, functional and kept clean
for all the cool beach rides. The only non original item in the dash is
the radio which although looks like the original it plays tapes and has
a FM band.

This rag top has been entered at many car shows where it is a great
conversation piece.
Brad is carrying on the tradition of car restoration with his sons who
will most likely have an opportunity to use the car for college and
possibly re-restore the car at some point.
For now you will probably see it crusing around at some of our club
events. |
