Ford Racing Mustang
Challenge Finalizes 2010 Championship Schedule
TOOELE,UT—18 November 09— The 2010 Ford
Racing Mustang Challenge season will feature a new wrinkle in the
championship. Mustang Challenge officials have confirmed the final 2010
Ford Racing Mustang Challenge schedule, which will see the series feature
three double-header race weekends and grow to an 11-race calendar.
Established in advance of the 2008 season
in partnership between Miller Motorsports Park and Ford Racing, 2010
marks the third year of racing for Mustang Challenge, which utilizes the
Ford Mustang FR500S as the competition platform riding on the g-Force R1
BFGoodrich Tire.
The inaugural 2008 season saw the series
host a debut double-header at the season-closing event at Miller
Motorsports Park, and the double-duty weekend proved to be a popular
choice for racers, fans, teams, and families alike. 2010 will see
three such double-race race meetings, starting with the season-opening
event at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a mid-summer double-race weekend at New
Jersey Motorsports Park, and then once again closing at the home track
with a double-header at Miller Motorsports Park.
The schedule is also highlighted by two new
venues for the Mustang Challenge competitors to enjoy, Watkins Glen
International and Virginia International Raceway, as well as a return to
Lime Rock Park as the series takes part in the traditional Memorial Day
weekend event.
The championship battle, which has seen
remarkable young racer Andrew Caddell score the Miller Cup honors two
seasons running, will be comprised of ten rounds, giving the racers the
opportunity to utilize their ten best results of the season to determine
the championship standings.
“With some great racing all year long, and 26 cars on our grid to close
out the season at home, we were really excited about the year and now we
are focused on having another great season of racing in 2010,” said
Mustang Challenge Series Director Lynda Randall. “We are hoping
that by using their best ten finishes for the championship, we are able to
offer some flexibility for our racers. And we know that with new tracks
like Watkins Glen and VIR on the schedule in addition to the places
we’ve raced before, that our teams and drivers are going to be really
excited about getting to the track and having some fun again next year.”
