DAVID
STEVENSON
Simply put, editor David Stevenson is a lover of all things
fast. Raised in the Northeast, he enjoyed modifying cars and amateur
drag racing as a youth. Fortunately,
he never lived too far from an official race track. He got his first “taste of speed” at New England Dragway
back in the mid 1980’s. His
first track car was a 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix but a chance encounter
with a hidden patch of “black ice” one cold winter morning put
his pride and joy head-on into a “Jersey barrier”.
This brought his first racing project to a quick and untimely
demise but his dreams were much bigger and better.
After graduating from high school, he went to the local Ford
dealership and special ordered his very first 5.0 Mustang.
He waited six long months but finally took delivery of a
“stripped down” 5.0 LX just prior to his 19th
birthday. One turn of
the key and the 5.0 motor came to life with a rumble, he’s been a
performance car fanatic ever since.
After graduating from college, he
relocated to central NJ and moved within a few miles of the
legendary Raceway Park in Englishtown.
Living right smack down in the middle of one of the largest
“drag racing” hot spots in the country, he would frequent
popular speed shops like Downs Ford, Crazy Horse Racing and
Larocca’s Performance. For most of the mid to late 90’s, David
was the stereo-typical “weekend warrior”. He would modify his
car during the week and hit the local drag strips for “test and
tune” sessions almost every weekend.
David moved out to Los Angeles in
1999 and began his automotive writing career as the founding editor
of the now defunct NETSTANG.COM (a Mustang themed online magazine).
Later that year, he met his long time friend and business
partner Ed Inclan at the “Mustang Wings and Wheels” exposition
held at the Santa Monica airport.
David was there promoting his online magazine while Ed was
showcasing his Pro-Series race team for the upcoming “LA Street
Race”. By 2001, Ed
and David founded ONLINE-RACER.COM with the goal of promoting the
grass roots racing scene. During
this time, Ed and David were both heavily involved with the GB
Mustang (Specialty Car) program.
With Ed behind the wheel and David as one of the crew
members, a race modified GB Mustang obtained the regional SCCA Super
Production Points Championship for 2001.
With the popularity of the ONLINE-RACER website, David
decided to fade out the NETSTANG website and work closely with Ed on
various ONLINE-RACER endeavors, such as the “Back to the Tracks”
program.
Although David’s personal favorite
has always been the Ford Mustang, he has owned over 20 high
performance vehicles of various makes and models.
He has dabbled in everything from “bolt-on” Honda’s and
“turbo-charged” Mitsubishi’s to “big block” GM’s.
He currently owns a “hopped up” 500 HP 2003 SVT Cobra and
a “tricked out” 2005 Focus.
When David is not working with ONLINE-RACER, he is busy
modifying cars and working as a consultant for the entertainment
industry. Recently, he
appeared as a “fictional” illegal street racer on a popular TV
show.
