| During a brief business trip to Indianapolis I was
fortunate enough to take a quick tour of one of the most historic race
tracks in the world.
Built in the spring of 1909 the first 500 mile race was held in 1911.
With exceptions of 1917-1918 and 1942-45, when activity was suspended
due to America's involvement with the two World Wars, the Indianapolis
500 has been held every year since.
The track is located less than 6 miles northwest of the center of the
City of Indianapolis in a neighborhood which since 1926 has officially
been the City of Speedway.
The pictures do not do justice to the speedway. As a last minute trip
I had to purchase a disposable camera to take these memories back home. |
