You did what to a Jag? This was the common
reaction among racers when the 4 door Jaguar "Top Cat" was
unloaded from the trailer.
This car was built to run at the '91-'92 season of La
Carrera and the Silver State Classic. Top Cat was clocked at a speed of
over 180 mph!
Bob Jones who drove the car at La Carrera in Baja
remembers how the car would get airborne going over a ridge at top
speed. "I could turn the wheel as the car went over a hill
and there car would just go straight. The front wheels were in the
air!"
The car ran at the Silver State Classic unable to
succesfully finish, however, it had a tremendous top speed for a sedan.
It ran with a stock Jaguar rear end that could not hang at those
speeds.
Top Cat had a Chevy 454 that produced over 500hp.
Behind the 454 an automatic transmission which was geared for 200
mph.
The car as seen on the top picture was driven by
Edward Inclan at El Mirage Dry Lake and clocked an unoffical
195mph.
